Kochi-Muziris Biennale: What's Confirmed for 2027–28
There is no Kochi-Muziris Biennale in the 2026–27 season. The sixth edition, For the Time Being, curated by the artist Nikhil Chopra with HH Art Spaces, opened on 12 December 2025 and closed on 31 March 2026 after showing 66 artist projects from more than 25 countries. The Kochi Biennale Foundation has announced the seventh edition for 2027–28 and, on 8 May 2026, named the French-Algerian artist Kader Attia as its curator. The opening date, title, venue list and ticket prices had not been published when this page was written; most editions, including the first in 2012 and the sixth in 2025, opened on 12 December. The Biennale is India's first biennale of contemporary art. It fills heritage warehouses and halls in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, with Aspinwall House on the waterfront as its principal venue since 2012 and Pepper House, Durbar Hall in Ernakulam and other sites around it. Between editions the foundation runs residencies, talks and screenings: artist presentations are listed at Pepper House on 6 and 13 November 2026. Good to know
- Do not plan a December 2026 trip around the Biennale; the next edition is a year later. Come for Christmas and the Cochin Carnival instead.
- Follow the Kochi Biennale Foundation's events calendar for talks and presentations at Pepper House in the meantime.
- When the seventh edition opens, allow two full days: one for Aspinwall House and the Fort Kochi sites, one for Mattancherry and Ernakulam.
- For art in an off year, visit the Durbar Hall Art Centre in Ernakulam and the Gallery of Contemporary Indian Art at the Kerala Museum.
