Kochi's festival year has three peaks. Onam, in August or September, opens with the Athachamayam procession in Tripunithura and centres on the Thrikkakara temple; Thiruvonam next falls on Sunday 12 September 2027. December belongs to Christmas and the Cochin Carnival in Fort Kochi, which ends with the burning of the Pappanji at midnight on 31 December and a rally on New Year's Day. Between November and April the temple festivals take over: Vrischikolsavam at Tripunithura, the Ernakulam Shiva Temple festival in January or February and Aluva Sivarathri, on Saturday 6 March 2027. Deepavali is on Sunday 8 November 2026, Easter on 28 March 2027 and Vishu on 15 April 2027. Church feasts and the festivals of Mattancherry's Gujarati and Konkani communities fill the gaps.
