About Bolgatty Palace & Island Resort
Bolgatty Palace was built by Dutch traders in 1744 and served as the residence of the commander of Dutch Malabar; it was later extended and given landscaped gardens. The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation owns the property and has run it as a heritage resort since 1976. It has 60 rooms, a swimming pool, an Ayurveda centre, a nine-hole golf course and daily Kathakali performances for guests. For event-goers the draw is its open space: the palace lawns and event grounds at the southern end of Mulavukad island, facing the Ernakulam skyline, are hired for concerts, music festivals, food events, weddings and corporate evenings, which makes it one of the few large open-air venues close to the city centre.
