About Hill Palace Museum
Hill Palace at Tripunithura was built in 1865 as the residence of the Maharaja of Cochin and is the largest archaeological museum in Kerala. The complex of 49 buildings in traditional Kerala style is spread over 54 acres of terraced grounds, with a deer park in one corner. It opened to the public as a museum in 1986 and is run by the Kerala State Archaeology Department. The galleries hold the Cochin royal family's ornaments and crown, paintings, sculptures in stone and bronze, weapons, inscriptions and coins. Malayalam filmgoers know the palace as the main location of the 1993 film Manichitrathazhu. It lies about 10 km from the centre of Ernakulam.
