New Year's Eve 2026 in Kochi: Parties & Pappanji
New Year's Eve 2026 falls on Thursday 31 December, and 1 January 2027 is a Friday, so the celebration runs into a long weekend. Kochi has two kinds of New Year. The first is free and public. At Fort Kochi, the Cochin Carnival ends with the burning of the Pappanji, a giant effigy of an old man, at the stroke of midnight, traditionally at Parade Ground, and a costumed rally from Veli Ground follows on New Year's Day. The crowds are very large, police close Fort Kochi to vehicles from the afternoon and entry is stopped once the grounds are full. The second kind is ticketed. The Grand Hyatt at Bolgatty, Le MΓ©ridien and Crowne Plaza at Maradu, the Kochi Marriott at Edappally and the harbour hotels on Willingdon Island sell gala dinners with live bands and DJs; lounges and clubs in the city run cover-charge nights; and resorts at Cherai and Kumbalangi host beach and poolside parties, often with a room included. Packages are usually announced from late November and are priced per person or per couple, with or without alcohol. This page lists the parties as they go on sale.

Good to know
- Read what the ticket covers: entry only, food, unlimited or limited drinks, a stay. Couple and stag prices differ, and some parties are couples-only.
- For the Pappanji, be inside Fort Kochi by early evening. Vehicles are stopped well outside, so expect to walk the last stretch.
- Book your ride home before midnight. Cabs are scarce and surge-priced, and police run drink-driving checks across the city.
- KMRL and the Water Metro have run late services on New Year's Eve in past years; check their announcements on 30 or 31 December.
- Carry an original photo ID. Kerala's legal drinking age is 23 and venues check.
