Broadway is the old bazaar of Ernakulam, a grid of narrow lanes between Marine Drive and MG Road that predates the malls. Shops here sell textiles, spices, stationery, kitchenware, lamps and festival goods at wholesale rates, and Ernakulam Market next to it trades in vegetables, fish and provisions. The lanes are at their busiest before Onam, Vishu, Christmas and Deepavali, when households shop for clothes, lamps, stars and sweets. There are no event venues as such, but Broadway features in most shopping guides and food walks of the city. Go on foot; the lanes are too narrow for comfortable driving and parking is scarce.
