Things to do in Cherai

Cherai, at the northern end of Vypin island, has the beach most Kochi residents mean when they plan a day at the sea. The sand runs for several kilometres with the backwaters just behind it, so the sea and the lagoon can be seen from the same road, and dolphins are sometimes sighted offshore. It is about 25 km from the city centre and 20 km from the airport. Resorts along Cherai Beach Road host pool parties, weddings, yoga retreats and New Year's Eve events, and Munambam fishing harbour is at the island's tip. Weekends and holidays are crowded; arrive before late afternoon to find parking.
