Where the Onam story lives

Things to do in Thrikkakara

Nothing is listed for in thrikkakara yet โ€” new events are added every morning, so check back soon.

Thrikkakara, between Edappally and Kakkanad, is tied to the Onam story more closely than any other place in Kerala. The Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy Temple is dedicated to Vamana, and the locality is held to be King Mahabali's capital; temple records carry the earliest known mention of Onam celebrations, dated 861 CE. The temple's ten-day Onam festival begins with flag-hoisting on Atham day and includes Kathakali and percussion performances, an elephant procession called Pakalpooram on the ninth day and Onasadya feasts that draw crowds in the tens of thousands. Outside the festival, college campuses nearby host fests and seminars.
